How can one truly embrace feral without going outside?
Once a upon a time, most people had a kitchen garden on their property. Now most do not. We have become disconnected from the very things we cannot live without.
This is my garden and my happy place. I grow enough here to sustain my family for most of the year and every year we expand. While I do grow food, I also grow 90% of our herbs, spices, and my own tea blends as well. My plants are grown from seed, by me, and seeds are saved each year for the following year's bounty. This space is frequently highlighted on my socials.
Gardening is a constant learning process and each year is different than the next. The challenge makes it more fun for me; a constant puzzle to be solved.

Grow the vegetables for the whimsy as well as the function. I am now firmly into the harvesting season of my garden which is the best time of the year!!! This picture is a recent harvest of mine. I consciously choose to grow the weirdest colored and shaped veggies I can find. Anyone can grow green beans but how many gardens have dragon's tongue beans with their purple and yellow shells??? Black Beauty tomatoes, Golden Sun beets, King Tut peas??? I want my space to feel like a Dr. Seuss book that I can go get lost in. And the taste of these beans? Absolutely delicious. Never be scared to try something new. You just might stumble on an instant fave.
The white cucumbers pictured makes an excellent pickle.
The purple beans hiding at the bottom of the basket turn green when cooked.
These are the most recognizable bean of the whole basket but a hearty favorite in my house.
From walking around your neighborhood, to your nearest wilderness area, to your very own backyard, the world around us is magical and deserves exploration with touches of wonder and whimsy. It is only by embracing this wondrous world that we can truly know ourselves.
